Not so sure...

I recently stumbled upon this comparison of lyrics in the 70's to lyrics today. What it's trying to say is that songs were more creative and in-depth then what is being produced today. There is nobody that can agree more with this then me but I believe they are comparing two very different things here. First they give you fantastic lyrics from arguably the best rock band ever assembled and comparing it with some ringtone rap music. The 70's produced some of the greatest music ever recorded but I'm sure that there were some songs that were just as bad as this one by Far East Movement. There are many rappers today that have extensive vocabularies and have purpose behind their music unlike the example this picture gives. I agree with the message behind this picture but not with its content.

  1. I agree, while both lyrics fit the descriptions they are given, it's unfair to compare these two particular pieces, I feel like it's a "comparing apples and oranges" kind of situation. There are plenty of groups and artists today with amazing, meaningful lyrics. This Far East Movement clip, while they are fun to listen to, is a bad comparison when trying to compare deep, meaningful lyrics as opposed to fun songs to dance to.

  2. this is so true. todays lyrics are so stupid and ridiculous. I mean what is "slizzard"?? You cannot even compare classic artists to the shock lyrics people who call themselves artists use today.

  3. I agree with you here. they are trying to make the statement that hey what happened to meaningful song lyrics? And led zep was always great at having really deep words. But like laurel said they made the mistake of comparing it to a song that isnt looked at for its lyrics but to give people something to dance to. id like to see someone find another meaningful set of lyrics to compare this to.

  4. Music in older genres are by far more impactful than that of music today. The music I prefer over any other is Country music- - becuase the lyrics still provide the listener with a story. No offense Hip Hop fans, but that music is all about sexual contexts and drugs. I'd take the Beatles over that any day!

  5. Wow this blog made my day. I no longer feel alone in this world of crappy music. I'm a writer and a musician and one thing that sickens me most is the music of this age. We switched from amazing bands like pink floyd and led zepplin to guys who cant even spell their name.
